It’s good to see that they’re being brought home properly. I was quite impressed, and moved, when I found out that the RAF had been sent out to bring the injured back home and that they’ve been sent straight to Selly Oak Hospital which is where the wounded from Afghanistan and Iraq went to; they’re getting the best medical care there is off people who are specialists in dealing with battlefield trauma. It’s good to see that, as a country, we can still look after our own and if the worst should happen that we bring them home with the utmost dignity.
Actually, I think the whole government response has been pretty flawless. People from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office were on the ground within hours, medical staff were flown out with them. I can imagine it’s a great comfort if you’re badly injured in a foreign country to have one of your own there looking after your care and working to get you home as soon as possible.
