Kata

There’s this moment where you realise that your partner has made a mistake and maybe they’re attacking when they should be defending or making the wrong attack; it happens, we all do it. You’re really going at it; thirty-one movements in fifteen seconds so reaction time isn’t great and you’re using a weapon so consequences are serious. You realise that you are extremely vulnerable because, unlike your partner, you’re still doing the kata; you might be half way through a movement and just as all this is rushing through your head your body takes over, moves off the line of attack, parries the attack and everything works out.
