So mum’s back and we were talking about the EU and Brexit and traveling around the EU after and stuff. It turns out that both mum and me are entitled to Irish passports and Irish citizenship because my grandmother was Irish. I’ve just checked the website and it says
“If one of your grandparents is an Irish citizen who was born in Ireland, but none of your parents was born in Ireland, you may become an Irish citizen. You will need to have your birth registered in the Foreign Births Register.”
So I register my ass in the Foreign Births Register, claim my passport, job done. The only slightly niggly point is that this somewhat makes me a hypocrite in that I’m absolutely voting for Brexit but if Britain leaves I personally will still enjoy all the benefits of EU citizenship. I’ll still be able to go and work in the EU and travel around freely no matter what.
